Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Coming Soon

The Companion to CT for Special Cases

Slider

To complement our Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, we will soon be offering magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services. MRI is a great diagnostic tool for detailed brain and soft tissue imaging, or as an additional view when CT images are inconclusive. While MRI machines are commonplace in human medicine, they remain largely inaccessible to veterinary patients of smaller veterinary clinics or cost-prohibitive when available. This is why our team is dedicated to providing accessible and affordable CT and MRI imaging services to our Bay Area communities.

Our Vet-MR Grande scanner has an open bed design and can safely accommodate larger pets. It offers real-time imaging, which allows our veterinary staff to make adjustments as needed in order to obtain the clearest pictures. This made-for-veterinary machine gives us a major advantage over older, clunkier scanners that are often intended for human use. In addition to producing highly detailed images, this machine runs on less than 3kw power and includes a no-maintenance magnet, which keeps running costs low. This allows us to provide this service at a reasonable price to our clients and veterinary partners.

MRI machines are typically used to diagnose or determine the cause of: intracranial disease, full or partial limb paralysis, ataxia of the rear limbs or all limbs and soft tissue injury. MRI is often the imaging device of choice for damages to the shoulders, brachial plexus, and cruciate tears. This type of imaging uses a combination of radio waves and magnetic fields to create an image and is a very safe procedure for most animals.

During an MRI scan, the animal is placed under general anesthesia for 20-60 minutes, depending on the area being studied. It is an outpatient procedure and images are immediately available for review by the animal’s veterinary team.

Together, we can determine if MRI services are a necessary addition or practical alternative to Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. To find out more about these diagnostic options and how we strive to make them accessible and affordable to all, call our clinic at 925.265.8385 and book your appointment.
